History of Cinema in India - 1896 to 1911

On 7 July 1896, citizens of Bombay were shown six silent short films by Lumiere Brothers at the Watson's Hotel.

In 1897, Clifton and Co.s Meadows Street Photography Studio started showing films daily.

In 1898, in Classic theater, films were shown.

In 1900, a cinema house came up in Madras. Major Warrick started it. Novelty cinema house came up in Bombay.

Alexander cinema also came up in Bombay.

In 1907 Elphinstone Picture Palace was started by J.F Madan.
