Pritam (Kishore Kumar), on a rainy day when Pritam runs into a beautiful girl, Meena Sharma (Kalpana), and their umbrellas get entangled, and when freed get interchanged. He joins classes of her maternal uncle, a music maestro of sorts, and continues meeting her and falls in love. When Meena's sister is about to get married, she travels to Pune and has an accident and her name gets as one of the dead. Heart-broken and devastated Pritam is severely depressed, until his co-workers advise him to get on with the like and take him for a picnic. In the picnic, he becomes cheerful.. He starts carrying his life normally. Meena returns back, quite very much alive, and finds that Pritam is enjoying life to the fullest. She decides to teach him a lesson.
